Mark Holley & One-A-Chord
What A Friend

Mark Holley may be a newcomer in some respects, since What A Friend, with his vocal ensemble One-A-Chord, is his album debut. But Holley has been around the block a little, ministering with Deitrick Haddon (backing vocals), gaining stage experience with the Derrick and Celeste Brinkley play “What’s Love Got To Do With It”, an penning songs for Derrick Starks and Phillip Brooks.

CDThe Detroit native moves from the church platform (Greater Apostolic Faith Temple, Detroit) to the national stage by serving up 13 praise-driven songs that blend together choruses with ballads in a contemporary setting. Several notable players (Charles “Volley” Craig, Darryl Dixon, Al Turner) add to the project.

“Sacrifice of Praise”, written by Dana Davis and Billy Meadows and embedded into a backdrop of acoustic guitar, showcases the group’s ability to impact with soft vocals.

On “He’s Real”, Holley and One-A-Chord delve into a slow groove funk to hammer home their message. Cynthia Stanfield takes solo duties on “He’ll Bring You Out”, letting her soprano pipes soar to the heavens on this cut that is also distinguished by some great bass work from Alan “Snoop” Evans II.

On the more edgy tip, “Clap Your Hands” and “Endureth Forever” rely on solid rhythms and anchored bass, as Holley exhorts on top of One-A-Chord’s vocal expression of the greatness of God.

Call it a steady entry for musical ministry of Mark Holley & One-A-Chord.

Mark Holley & One-A-Chord Takes The # 1 Spot With Hit Song "What A Friend"

Baltimore--April 24, 2006--Multi-talented Detroit native Mark Holley (M&G Records/Central South) and his sensational choir, the anointed, collective body of believers known as One-A-Chord have the #1 song on WCAO in Baltimore, MD with their powerful hit "What A Friend." WCAO won the Stellar Award for Best Station of the Year in 2005. "What A Friend" continues to build momentum across the country.

WCAO Program Director Lee Michaels says: '"What A Friend' is a great song, PD's everywhere just need to play it." The song is being added in Dallas, Little Rock, Greensboro, NC and elsewhere. Detroit can't get enough of the song: "This is a terrific project--and not just because Mark Holley and 1 A-Chord are from my city. The beats are there on songs like 'His Mercy Endureth' and you won't find any song more heartfelt than 'What A Friend.' This one is definitely worth your while," says Deborah Smith Pollard Host/Producer "Strong Inspirations" FM 98 WJLB-Detroit.

The primary goal of Mark Holley & 1AC is to reach the masses and to deliver the plan of salvation to the lost. This ministry strives to promote and produce unity in the body of Christ, through love.

Through this ministry, with God's help, I pray that we understand that 'We are One' in the spirit. No division, no hate; but love through Jesus Christ, says Mark Holley.

Detroit, Michigan has never been short on musical talent. One of the very talented individuals on that long list of musicians is recording artist Mark Holley. Holley is a passionate singer/songwriter who has the ability to write heartfelt songs that cross boundaries. The title track “What A Friend” is a moving song that has found favor with Program Director’s in several major markets.

Together with One-A-Chord, which has been together for 10 strong years, Holley has assembled a group of worshipers who flow in unison in passion for Christ. Nowhere is this passion more evident than on “My First Love”. Beautifully written and wonderfully composed, the song is a testimony to the love Jesus. Other songs that should be noted are “He’s Real”, “Sacrifice of Praise”, and “We Are One.” The CD has a no frills quality to it that I love. It doesn’t come across as contrived or forced. Holley has managed to take his heart and put it on a CD for the listener to share in his quiet time with God.
